Welcome to CrossPoint Baptist Church

We are blessed to be a part of the Grandville and greater Grand Rapids area. We believe that the Lord has called us to uplift the fallen, to comfort those who are troubled, and to encourage a Christlike spirit in our community. Our location at this time is just a jumping off point to bigger and better things. The Lord has blessed our congregation with a temporary place to worship, and we are seeking and praying for our permanant home. We know that the church isn't the building, but the souls that are brought together by the Holy Spirit.

Every guest that visits one of our services, will find an open door and a welcoming hand. Our desire is to live our Christian walk, and to strive to be a church that is encouraging, with a soft heart towards all that we meet. While we do not claim to be perfect, we are thankful that we are all sinners saved by grace, and that true salvation is for each and every one of us.

We hope to have you be our guest at one of our services either on Sunday Morning or Wednesday Night.

Lead Pastor

Pastor Theron Crawford Sr.

Theron Crawford Sr has been in the ministry for over 30 years and has served in various capacities as youth pastor, college pastor, missionary, and senior pastor.

He and his wife, Brenda,  met in Bible college and have been married for 37 years. They  have three adult children, two of which, Theron Jr and Charissa, have helped him found CrossPoint Baptist Church in Grandville, Michigan. Their youngest son, Erik, is the assistant principal of a large Christian School in Garland, Texas. They have 5 beautiful grandchildren.

Theron and Brenda began their ministry on the northwest side of Grand Rapids, Michigan. in 1992. Grand Rapids is where Brenda grew up, as her father was the founding pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Their church ministry experience has been in Michigan, North Carolina, and Missouri. In 2014, the Lord called them to serve as missionaries in Central America in the country of Nicaragua. While there, they helped to start churches, study Bible college, and house mission teams. In 2016, Theron broke his back while in the mountains of Nicaragua, and ultimately, had to leave the field due to surgery complications and rehabilitation.

In 2017, the Lord led them to start CrossPoint Baptist Church, with Theron Jr and Charissa’s families, where they have been for the last eight years. During that time, they have seen many souls saved, families mended, and a church where people can call “home”. They are blessed to serve with the church family at CrossPoint, and it anticipate how the Lord will continue to bless in the future.

Our Statement of Faith
CROSSPOINT BAPTIST CHURCH

GRANDVILLE, MICHIGAN

Doctrinal Position:

We believe that the Holy Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, was written by men divinely inspired by God.  We believe that the Bible reveals God, the fall of man, the way of Salvation, and God's planned purpose in the ages.  We believe it to be infallible and entirely accurate from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 and the sole authority for the faith and practice of this church. 2 Timothy 3:16,17    2 Peter 1:21    Hebrews 4:12

We believe that there is one God; a living, intelligent Spirit; the Maker and Supreme Ruler of Heaven and earth, eternally expressing Himself through three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:26    Matthew 3:16,17    1 John 5:7

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Virgin born Son of God, conceived by the Holy Ghost, truly God and truly man, perfectly sinless in His life making atonement of Calvary's cross for all, applicable to those who believe on Him as their Savior.   Who by the power of God was raised bodily from the dead, ascended visibly to the throne of the Father, and there ever lives to make intercession for us as our High Priest and only mediator between God and man; Who according to His promise will return for His church bodily and visibly. Matthew 1:20-23    John 1:1-14    1 Corinthians 15:3-8    Romans 10:9,10    Hebrews 4:14; 7:25    1 Timothy 2:5

We believe that salvation of the sinner is wholly of grace, and made possible alone through the vicarious death of Jesus Christ upon the cross of Calvary, and that there is salvation in none other and that all that is necessary for salvation is an acceptance by faith of His infinite work. Ephesians 2:8,9    Romans 4:4,5    Isaiah 53:3,4,10,11    Luke 22:19,20    Acts 4:12    John 1:12; 3:16

We believe that the material universe, including man, came into being by the direct creation of God In six literal 24 hour days, and not by any evolutionary process. Genesis 1    2 Peter 3:5-7

We believe that man was created sinless but voluntarily sinned and that because of this fall, all men are now sinners by birth and destined for hell, and must be born again to be fit for fellowship with God. Genesis 1:31; 3:17    Romans 5:12-21; 6:23     John 3: 3-6

We believe that an eternal, literal and burning hell is the final abode of lost mankind with Satan and his angels to accompany them there and to there remain throughout eternity without hope of relief.  Revelation 21:10-15

We believe in heaven as described in the Scriptures and that the only inhabitants thereof will be God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, angels, and all the redeemed.  Revelation 21:1-22:6

We believe that the local church is a congregation of immersed believers associated by covenant of faith and fellowship in the Gospel; that the local church has the absolute right of self-government and is answerable only to God, her Administrator, and the Lord Jesus Christ, her Head; that in all matters of membership, policy, discipline, and benevolence the will of the local church is sovereign. Matthew 28:19    Acts 10:47,48    Romans 12    Matthew 18:18-20    Ephesians 5:23,24

We believe that there are only two church ordinances, baptism and the Lord's Supper.  Baptism is the immersion of the believer in water.  We believe that participation in the Lord's Supper is symbolic of the Lord's vicarious death and is to be shared with true believers regardless of their church affiliation. Romans 6:3-6    Acts 8:36-39    Colossians 2:12    1 Corinthians 11:23-34    Luke 22:19,20

We believe that the Bible teaches that there are both permanent and temporal gifts.  The temporal or sign gifts including tongues, the interpretation of tongues and gifts of healing were given by God to lend creditability to the establishment of the early church in the transitional period of dispensations.  These sign gifts of the Holy Spirit are completed and are not applicable to the work of the Holy Spirit today. 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, 28-30; 13: 8-10

We believe that God has given the church a great commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations so that there might be a great multitude from every nation, tribe, ethnic group, and language group who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. As ambassadors of Christ, we must use all available means to go to the foreign nations and not wait for them to come to us.  (Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; 2 Cor. 5:20)

We believe that every Christian, as a steward of that portion of God’s wealth entrusted to him, is obligated to financially support his local church.  We believe that God has established the tithe as a basis for giving, but that every Christian should also give other offerings sacrificially and cheerfully to the support of the church, the relief of those in need, and the spread of the Gospel.  We believe that a Christian relinquishes all rights to direct the use of his tithe or offering once the gift has been made. Any designated funds are considered an advisory designation by the giver. (Gen. 14:20; Prov. 3:9-10; Acts 4:34-37; 1 Cor. 16:2; 2 Cor. 9:6-7; Gal. 6:6; Eph. 4:28; 1 Tim. 5:17-18; 1 John 3:17)

We believe that the end of this age is approaching and in the imminent, personal, visible, pre-millennial return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for His church. 1 Peter 4:7    Acts 1:11    1Thessalonians 4:13-18

Societal Issues:

Human Sexuality.

We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between one naturally-born man and one naturally-born woman.  We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. We believe that God disapproves of and forbids any attempt to alter one’s gender by surgery or appearance.  (Gen. 2:24; Gen. 19:5, 13; Gen. 26:8-9; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom. 1: 26-29; 1 Cor. 5:1; 6:9; 1 Thess. 4:1-8; Heb. 13:4)

We believe that the only Scriptural marriage is the joining of one naturally-born man and one naturally-born woman for life.  (Gen. 2:24; Rom. 7:2; 1 Cor. 7:10; Eph. 5:22-23)

Family Relationships

  • We believe that men and women are spiritually equal in position before God but that God has ordained distinct and separate spiritual functions for men and women in the home and the church. The husband is to be the leader of the home, and men are to be the leaders (pastors and deacons) of the church.  Accordingly, only men are eligible for licensure and ordination by the church. (Gal. 3:28; Col. 3:18; 1 Tim. 2:8-15; 3:4-5, 12)
  • We believe that God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. The husband is to love his wife as Christ loves the church.  The wife is to submit herself to the Scriptural leadership of her husband as the church submits to the headship of Christ.  Children are an heritage from the Lord.  Parents are responsible for teaching their children spiritual and moral values through consistent lifestyle example and appropriate discipline, including Scriptural corporal correction.  (Gen. 1:26-28; Ex. 20:12; Deut. 6:4-9; Ps. 127:3-5; Prov. 19:18; 22:15; 23:13-14; Mk. 10:6-12; 1 Cor. 7:1-16; Eph. 5:21-33; 6:1-4, Col. 3:18-21; Heb. 13:4; 1 Pet. 3:1-7)
  • We believe that God disapproves of divorce and intends marriage to last until one of the spouses dies or is dissolved due to infidelity. Although divorced or divorced and remarried persons may hold positions of service in the church and be greatly used of God for Christian service, they may not be considered for the offices of pastor or deacon. Divorced people will be welcome in our congregation, and we ultimately leave this issue between them and the Lord.  (Deut. 24:1-4; Mal. 2:14-17; Matt. 19:3-12; Rom. 7:1-3; 1 Tim. 3:2, 12; Titus 1:6)

Abortion. We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being.  Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life.  Abortion is murder.  We reject any teaching that abortions due to rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth or population control, or the physical or mental well-being of the mother are acceptable. (Job 3:16; Ps. 51:5; 139:14-16; Isa. 44:24; 49:1, 5; Jer. 1:5; 20:15-18; Luke 1:44)

Euthanasia.  We believe that the direct taking of an innocent human life is a moral evil, regardless of the intention.  Life is a gift of God and must be respected from conception until natural death.  Thus we believe that an act or omission which, of itself or by intention, causes death in order to eliminate suffering constitutes a murder contrary to the will of God.  Discontinuing medical procedures that are extraordinary or disproportionate to the expected outcome can be a legitimate refusal of over-zealous treatment.  (Ex. 20:13, 23:7; Matt. 5:21; Acts 17:28)

Love.  We believe that we should demonstrate love for others, not only toward fellow believers, but also toward those who are not believers, those who oppose us, and those who engage in sinful actions. We are to deal with those who oppose us graciously, gently, patiently, and humbly.  God forbids the stirring up of strife, the taking of revenge, or the threat or use of violence as a means of resolving personal conflict or obtaining personal justice. Although God commands us to abhor sinful actions, we are to love and pray for any person who engages in such sinful actions. (Lev. 19:18; Matt. 5:44-48; Luke 6:31; John 13:34-35; Rom. 12:9-10; 17-21; 13:8-10; Phil. 2:2-4; 2 Tim. 2:24-26; Titus 3:2; 1 John 3:17-18)

Lawsuits Between Believers.  We believe that Christians are prohibited from bringing civil lawsuits against other Christians or the church to resolve personal disputes.  We believe the church possesses all the resources necessary to resolve personal disputes between members.  We do believe, however, that a Christian may seek compensation for injuries from another Christian’s insurance company as long as the claim is pursued without malice or slander.  (1 Cor. 6:1-8; Eph. 4:31-32; Matt. 18:15-17)
